Team NL Arrives in Quebec City

Coaches and Mission Staff gather on the first night in Quebec City to debrief and prepare for practice day

The morning started early as the first wakeup call was set for just three hours after the calendar flipped to February 25th. Not long after rolling out of bed the team was loaded on the bus and heading to the St. John’s airport. The team was treated to spectacular service by their Air Canada agents on duty and then quickly settled in for a breakfast buffet that was composed of fruit and granola bars….just enough to get them to the plane. The menu didn’t faze this team though as they were running on adrenalin.

The team touched down in Montreal just after 8:00am and following an official breakfast stop their bus ride to Quebec City started. As the kilometers to their destination got smaller the energy and excitement on the bus grew. The team could feel that they would soon be in Quebec City and all their hard work would have paid off.

Stepping off the bus the team was reunited with their chef de mission, Nelson White who had travelled to Quebec City a day early to prepare for the teams arrival. They had barely unloaded their bags when they were on a bus again and making their way to the college to get lunch.

After a very long day on the road the team found their way back to their hotel and decided to have a pizza party at there in lieu of getting on another bus back to the college for supper. The lights were out early for the team, with the exception of the coaches and mission staff who were up late debriefing and making plans for the practice day and opening ceremonies.

The Team NL athletes will be very excited when they get up in the morning because after they headed to bed Team Alberta’s 101 members arrived and checked in. Meeting new athletes is a big part of National Games so the athletes will be thrilled to have the opportunity to make new friends in their own hotel.

It seems Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta are destined to be together these days, there has been no word how many ex pats are members of the Alberta team!
